BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division, renowned for its highly detailed and articulated Gunpla "MG (Master Grade)" series, recently announced the latest additions from "Mobile Suit Gundam": the "Dom" and "Rick Dom." These highly anticipated kits are set to release in February and March 2022, respectively.
These two kits are essentially a ver. 1.5 renewal, boasting newly sculpted exterior armor for the waist and arms that results in a more natural, refined look. This update also addresses previous issues with visible seam lines and gate marks. The internal frame and joint mechanisms have also undergone a significant overhaul, incorporating newly designed pull-out shoulder joints and elbow joints with a wider range of motion. The hip joint, previously an integrated ball-joint prone to breakage, has been redesigned with a more robust sliding cylindrical structure, and a new articulation axis has been incorporated into the thigh connection. Furthermore, the side skirts and ankle frames have been revamped to further expand the overall range of motion.
While its overall silhouette remains largely unchanged, retaining its sleek, heavy armor aesthetic, the "MG 1/100 Dom" focuses primarily on the aforementioned articulation revamp. Its arsenal is faithfully carried over from the previous kit, including the Giant Bazooka, 880mmRB-T27 RAKETEN Bazooka, Heat Saber, 90mm Machine Gun, and Sturm Faust.
The space-faring "MG 1/100 Rick Dom" arrives molded in a distinct bluish-purple hue. Key distinctions from the standard Dom include an enlarged backpack, a redesigned rear skirt, and revamped sole parts featuring additional thruster nozzles. Its weaponry includes the Heat Saber, Giant Bazooka, and Beam Bazooka.
