Japanese capsule toy maker Qualia has collaborated with Japanese illustrator Inuhiro (inuhiro85) to release a quirky new capsule toy series in January 2022, titled "Wild Fried Shrimp" (やせいのエビフライたち)!
The crispy breading of fried shrimp, the satisfying crunch and rich aroma upon the first bite – it's a moment of pure bliss that's hard to forget. However, the fried shrimp depicted by illustrator Inuhiro aren't so easily devoured. Perhaps due to an overwhelming will to survive, these fried delicacies have mutated, sprouting legs and making a mad dash from plates piled with lettuce and tomatoes! This leaves the sauce, meant to be drizzled over their golden-brown bodies, to fall into an empty space...

This new "Wild Fried Shrimp Capsule Toy" series from Qualia faithfully recreates Inuhiro's long-legged fried foods. Standing at approximately 3 to 5.5 cm tall, each figure meticulously captures the rough texture of the breading, the distinct shrimp or fish tails, and even includes accompanying lettuce and tomatoes. An amusing detail is how the "legs" are color-differentiated based on the ingredient, adding to their bizarre charm. The lineup includes: Fried Shrimp (エビフライ), Fried Japanese Horse Mackerel (アジフライ), Fried Squid (イカフライ), Croquette (コロッケ), and Fried Shiitake Mushroom (しいたけフライ). Each figure comes with its own plate, making them perfect for adding a touch of quirky, surreal fun to your dining table.
The artist's imagination extends even further, with concepts like bunny girl fried shrimp and medieval rideable fried shrimp showcasing their unique genius!
