The Ornithopter, flown by members of House Atreides across the desert planet Arrakis in "Dune," undoubtedly left a lasting impression on many fans! ZiO Creation's custom LEGO Ornithopter utilizes approximately 750 pieces. It faithfully recreates the dragonfly-like silhouette, the four pairs of eight vibrating blades, and the overall fuselage design. While the tail section features a slight modification, the model truly shines with its ability to replicate the Ornithopter's iconic retracted wing, dive-ready pose thanks to clever ball joints – a seriously cool feature!
ZiO Creation shared that he first determined the wing parts to establish the overall scale, which conveniently turned out to be close to minifigure proportion. The builder employed a rich array of sloped bricks, tiles, and Technic elements to achieve the futuristic aesthetic. Details like the landing gear, cannons, and hatches are also excellently replicated. The front glass cockpit proved to be the most time-consuming part of the build, requiring multiple iterations to perfect its precise and incredibly sharp lines!
The interior is just as meticulously crafted, designed to accommodate three minifigures, including the pilot, in the front, and four more in the rear, mirroring the film's specifications. For enhanced playability, the top of the fuselage, the rear hatch, and the two side windows of the cockpit can all be opened!
▼ Since the landing gear couldn't fully support the aircraft's weight, a support rod for the rear hatch was ingeniously integrated without compromising the overall aesthetic.
