TAMASHII NATIONS, Bandai Spirits' premier collector's toy division, previously announced the upcoming "METAL ROBOT魂 Re-GZ Custom." This latest addition to the "METAL ROBOT魂" series, renowned for its metallic finishes and die-cast frames, hails from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack MSV" and is slated for a May 2022 release.
The RGZ-91B Re-GZ Custom is an advanced transformable mobile suit, a further refinement of the RGZ-91 Re-GZ. Its dedicated Back Weapon System (BWS), which previously required removal and reattachment for transformation, has been redesigned into a compact, foldable unit integrated into the backpack. This allows for a full transformation back and forth between its high-firepower Waverider (WR) mode and its highly versatile Mobile Suit (MS) mode. Originally conceived by designer Mika Akitaka as a personal unit for Amuro Ray, it features a distinctive Gundam-like face despite not being a true Gundam.
The "METAL ROBOT魂 Re-GZ Custom" is supervised by its original mechanical designer, Mika Akitaka. It boasts a sophisticated, sharp design alongside its seamless transformation mechanism from MS to WR mode. Many joints are crafted from die-cast metal parts and electroplated for a premium, high-end feel. The entire exterior features a luxurious finish with eight different matte and metallic paint applications, complemented by an abundance of tampo-printed markings, all contributing to a more realistic and substantial presence.
The MS/WR transformation mechanism employs a precise, complete transformation system, allowing for seamless conversion without the need to swap or remove parts. Through meticulous structural analysis, the BWS achieves a unified look with the main body, resulting in a sleek and dynamic silhouette.
For weaponry, the figure faithfully recreates the "Beam Assault Rifle" with its distinctive AK-47-like design. The "Beam Cannons" on either side of the backpack can pivot forward or be detached for use as Beam Sabers. The "Double Grenade Launcher" concealed in the forearm features an opening/closing gimmick, and the beam guns on the side skirts can be repositioned in multiple directions. Furthermore, the METAL ROBOT魂 version includes an original gimmick: the nose section of the WR mode can be detached and wielded as a handheld Mega Beam Cannon.
