Japanese capsule toy manufacturer YELL (エール), known for its diverse and often humorous offerings, is set to release a uniquely themed capsule toy in March 2022: the "Tomb ~Mourning~" (墓〜とむらい〜) series!
Throughout life, most people accumulate memories they'd rather forget—embarrassing moments, regrettable decisions, or bad habits they've tried repeatedly to break. This capsule toy series offers a playful way to "self-reflect and bid farewell to the past." It also touches on things we lose as we age, like youthful vitality and physical stamina.
The "Tomb ~Mourning~" series features mini gravestones, each approximately 6.5 cm tall, primarily in a grayish-white color. They come inscribed with various "departed" concepts: "Dark Past" (黒歴史), "Stamina" (体力), "Gacha Spending" (課金), "Heart-Pounding Excitement" (ときめき), "Hope" (希望), "Pride" (プライド), and "Youth" (青春). An eighth blank (無地) gravestone is also included, for a total of 8 designs. Seeing "Hope," "Pride," and "Youth" on a tombstone certainly evokes a bittersweet chuckle! Of course, collectors can also write down things they wish to change on the blank gravestone, using it as a tangible reminder. These make for some interesting visual setups when displayed with other figures.
