Horror Meets Adorable: Bandai's Kaiju Bangechi Unveils Godziham-kun & Godzilla (2001) Figure, Arriving August

Bandai Spirits' "Kaiju Bangechi" monster figure series officially announced a new release today: the "Godziham-kun & Godzilla (2001)" figure, based on the iconic collaboration character from two decades ago. This unique collectible is slated for an August 2022 release.

The legendary Godziham-kun originated as an official promotional character and moviegoer gift back in 2001, when "Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (GMK)" and "Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Land Great Adventure" were screened as a double feature. Hamtaro, adorably dressed in a Godzilla costume, was a massive hit at the time. After a 20-year hiatus, the two franchises reunited for a new collaboration in 2021, bringing the beloved character back into the spotlight with a variety of merchandise.

However, this particular "Kaiju Bangechi Godziham-kun & Godzilla (2001)" figure deviates from the usual cute, chibi-style renditions. Instead, it features a highly realistic sculpt of the GMK Godzilla, meticulously reproducing its intimidating white eyes and dorsal fins that evoke the original Godzilla's design. The figure stands at an impressive height of approximately 22 cm.

What makes this release truly special is the interchangeable head part, allowing collectors to display the figure in its "Godziham-kun" form. This means one figure can be posed in two distinct ways. Witnessing Hamtaro's head unexpectedly emerging from the terrifying maw of GMK Godzilla creates a striking fusion of extreme horror and undeniable cuteness, delivering a far more impactful and contrasting aesthetic than previous chibi versions.
