BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division, renowned for its diverse 1/144 scale Gunpla lineup, the "HG (High Grade)" series, today announced the latest product from the theatrical anime film "Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island": the "HG 1/144 Cucuruz Doan's Zaku," slated for release in July 2022.
"Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island" is an adaptation of the 15th episode of the original "Mobile Suit Gundam" series. While the episode was infamous for its severe animation errors, it featured a remarkably profound script. The story follows protagonist Amuro as he encounters Cucuruz Doan, a Zeon deserter, on a remote island. Doan, haunted by the memory of his stray bullet killing a child's parents and his superior's order to eliminate the child as well, defied orders and fled. He now lives a self-sufficient life with children on a small Asian island. Whenever Federal or Zeon forces invade, he defends the island using an unarmed Zaku, resorting to throwing rocks and hand-to-hand combat.
The "HG 1/144 Cucuruz Doan's Zaku" is based on a previous GUNDAM THE ORIGIN kit but incorporates numerous newly molded parts to faithfully recreate the distinct design that pays homage to the original episode's animation errors. This includes a unique "horse-face" head sculpt with a jaw longer than a standard Zaku, along with battle damage details across its exterior armor, power pipes, and shoulder shield. The kit also comes with newly designed waterslide decals for the unit's markings. For weaponry, it includes only the Heat Hawk, accurately reflecting its appearance in the film.
