Japanese model manufacturer Bellfine recently announced the debut of its brand-new vinyl figure series, "SoftB," with the first release featuring SEGA's iconic, super-fast blue hedgehog, "Sonic the Hedgehog." The figure is slated for a November 2022 release.

In 1990, SEGA sought to challenge Nintendo's globally popular character, Mario. To do so, they assembled character designer Naoto Ohshima, game designer Hirokazu Yasuhara, and programmer Yuji Naka, who together created the incredibly successful blue hedgehog, "Sonic the Hedgehog." Sonic was envisioned as the fastest creature in the world, embodying a love for freedom and adventure. His personality is cool, calm, and confident, with a particular fondness for chili dogs. Thanks to his appealing design and the game's outstanding performance, Sonic quickly captured the attention of players worldwide. He was subsequently adapted into comics and animation, rising to become one of the most recognizable video game characters globally, alongside his predecessor, Mario.

For the "SoftB Sonic the Hedgehog" figure, Bellfine enlisted Yuya Yoshida of Japan's "Zokei Kobo Mirin," a prototype sculptor renowned for his extensive experience with large-scale sofubi figures. While a non-articulated vinyl statue, the figure perfectly captures Sonic's cool yet adorable classic in-game design. It features his iconic pose with his left index finger extended, prominently displaying his signature wide red running shoes, and boasts vibrant colors throughout. Most notably, it stands at an impressive 30 cm (approximately 11.8 inches) tall, offering a truly impactful presence!
