Star Wars has firmly established itself as a global culture, with its created worldview and rich storyline influencing generations of fans. From the original six films to the Disney trilogy, and even expanding into TV series and animation, various narrative modes have enriched this great work. In our last article, we visited Rodia. This time, we'll introduce a species that is visually closer to humans. Fans who have watched the animated series "The Clone Wars" will surely be familiar with them. Let's continue!

>>>The Togruta Species

Togruta are an indigenous species residing on the planet Shili. Although located on a frontier planet, Togruta have evolved a distinctive appearance. Besides their human-like faces and bodies, their most striking features are their rich patterned markings and large headtails. Yellow, green, orange, red, or the most common white, the markings on each Togruta have unique characteristics, serving as evidence of their evolution for camouflage against predators.

Next, one can observe their headtails, which can be further divided into two parts based on their structure. The two pairs of horn-like organs on top are called montrals, primarily used for echolocation to sense the movement of objects, with a range that can reach up to 25 meters. Below and to the rear of the head are three downward-pointing structures called lekku. The rear lekku are larger and thicker than those on the left and right sides, and male Togruta have smaller lekku than females. The patterns on both structures are genetically determined before birth, and their overall length increases with age.

Beyond their striking external features, the biggest difference between Togruta and humans in terms of internal organs is that they possess multiple stomachs. It is worth noting that although Shili is the Togruta homeworld, approximately 50,000 members of their species have colonized a planet called Kiros. However, whether on Shili or Kiros, Togruta prefer to settle in high mountains or on cliffs, a habit that leads them to regard the soil below as sacred. Therefore, most Togruta prefer to walk barefoot on the ground to express their respect for the land.

In Togruta society, the highest leader is referred to as the Queen, or Regasa, residing on their homeworld, Shili. Their government is composed of the Royal Guard and the Togruta military, with a fleet established to protect the peace of their home. However, their colonized planet, Kiros, is quite the opposite; on Kiros, Togruta are dedicated to developing a beautiful, peaceful, demilitarized world.

Among the most famous Togruta is the Jedi Ahsoka Tano, who was prominent in the animated series "The Clone Wars" and appeared in the second season of "The Mandalorian." Ahsoka's talent for the Force was discovered by Jedi Master Plo Koon when she was young, and she was sent to the Jedi Temple to train as an excellent Jedi, with Anakin Skywalker serving as her master. Together, they formed a highly coordinated and powerful duo throughout the Clone Wars, leading the 501st Legion to complete mission after mission. Ahsoka also dueled with renowned Sith Lords such as Darth Maul and Count Dooku, further proving her extraordinary strength.
However, she was ultimately framed as a traitor for destroying the Jedi Temple and, disappointed by the Jedi Council's inability to see clearly, she decided to leave the Jedi Order. After the rise of the Empire, she helped many Rebel allies resist the Emperor. The live-action Ahsoka also debuted in the second season of "The Mandalorian," and an Ahsoka series is set to be released next year, allowing everyone to learn more about the accomplishments of this Jedi Knight whom many have watched grow.

Another Togruta who served as a Master on the Jedi Council was Shaak Ti. She participated in numerous battles against the Separatists throughout the prequel trilogy. She was also the Jedi Master responsible for overseeing the clone production project on Kamino, but when she realized that the chips in the clones' brains seemed to have an evil purpose, she was sent back to Coruscant. Although this made the Council aware of Emperor Palpatine's plot, it was too late, and she ultimately could not prevent the rise of the Empire and lost her life.
