Piece by piece, LEGO bricks offer infinite possibilities; as long as you have imagination, you can build anything! There are countless LEGO enthusiasts worldwide who meticulously craft astonishing creations. Today, we're featuring a 1:1 scale brick-built model of the "SONY WALKMAN", submitted by LEGO builder Jerac to the LEGO Ideas platform.
In an era where music streaming is so advanced, a cassette tape that needs to be flipped to continue playing might be unimaginable for many young people. Jerac has designed a functional LEGO Walkman based on one of SONY's classic Walkman models released in the 80s, the "WM-22". This particular Walkman was not only known for its high cost-performance ratio but also its highly popular red casing. This creation meticulously recreates the WM-22's exterior design, its signature sloped surface and lettering, and the function buttons on top. It can even open up to insert a cassette tape, just like a real Walkman, and comes with an attachable strap made from chain links, transporting one back to nostalgic school days.
The headphones are also highly accurate in their recreation, and the construction method of the earcups is quite intriguing. What's more, among the three independent models – the Walkman, the cassette tape, and the headphones – only the cassette tape shows the distinct LEGO stud texture, giving it a sophisticated, adult collector's feel. This fully showcases Jerac's creative style, and it would undoubtedly look fantastic on display! Currently, his LEGO Ideas submission has garnered over 8,000 votes. If you, fellow toy enthusiasts, like it, why not show your support and help this brilliant creation get a chance to be commercialized?
It's worth mentioning that Jerac later also created various color versions of the LEGO "Walkman WM-22", as well as a scene depicting the nostalgic act of rewinding a cassette tape with a pencil from childhood – truly a blast from the past!
