Max Factory, a Japanese model manufacturer, recently announced the latest product in its 'figmaPLUS' series, a diorama model designed to enrich play with figma articulated figures: the "Starting Gate," scheduled for release in April 2023.
The "figmaPLUS Starting Gate" is an assembly model that requires no adhesive. Standing approximately 30.5 cm tall, it faithfully reproduces the common starting gate design seen in Japanese racecourses with green and gray molded colors. It features the upper steel frame, four mesh fences, and the internal mechanical structure for opening the side control gates. The dedicated numbers, lights, and display board sections are recreated with stickers.
With the included interchangeable base parts, the internal gate height can be adjusted to two levels: 21.5 cm with the long legs and 17.5 cm with the short legs. Multiple gates can also be displayed side-by-side. The size is generally compatible with the separately sold "figma Horse ver. 2" series. However, with the recent surge in popularity of Uma Musume Pretty Derby characters appearing in the figma series, this starting gate is also an excellent item for recreating scenes from the show!
