Hong Kong trendsetting artist Sam Lee (李燦琛) has partnered with art and culture brand POP SUNDAY to launch the art project "SUNDAY ZOO," interpreting the ever-changing forms of contemporary cities. Utilizing animal instincts, they have established a unique zoo, employing a myriad of peculiar characters to present the diverse dreams of urban dwellers. "SUNDAY ZOO" creates a creative ecological environment, hoping to bring everyone a diverse life experience in the metaverse through its works. Being in the world of "SUNDAY ZOO" is like visiting a zoo on a Sunday weekend, enjoying the relaxed comfort of a trip with family and friends.
When people mention "zoo," they naturally think of the various animals within, and just as humans in the city play diverse roles, akin to a fantastical zoo, the inspiration for SUNDAY ZOO burst forth. This art project began with trendy collectibles, Sam Lee's most familiar and beloved medium, and also involved multiple artists conveying the concept of SUNDAY ZOO through various artistic creation forms. It has further expanded into NFT art creation, with the SUNDAY ZOO NFT set to be released in mid-February 2023.
And Arhat (阿羅漢) is the debut collectible figure IP character in the SUNDAY ZOO art project, inspired by Sam Lee's own zodiac sign, the Year of the Rabbit. Its clear, transparent body expresses Arhat's freedom from all worries, with endlessly changing themes embedded within its transparency, allowing one to see through its inner self without reservation. It advocates for genuine inner communication between people, and to be like Arhat: "neither suffering nor joy, with a mind of equanimity, dwelling in right mindfulness and right wisdom."
Within the SUNDAY ZOO prototype, the protagonist Arhat also has seven other companions, representing Contemplation, Tiger-Subduing, Deer-Riding, River-Crossing, Great Strength, Happiness, and Joy, respectively. Their transparent bellies can hold various imaginations, and they possess different appearances and personalities, playing and experiencing together. The hope is that everyone who enters SUNDAY ZOO can find their own character within it.
