BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division's highly popular character model kit series, 'Figure-rise Standard,' is set to release its latest product, 'Kamen Rider,' from the movie 'Shin Kamen Rider' on March 18, 2023. Bandai has preemptively released unboxing photos and prototype images on their development blog!
This product is based on 'Shin Kamen Rider,' the Kamen Rider 50th-anniversary commemorative film set to premiere in March 2023. Directed by Hideaki Anno, this new interpretation re-imagines the original 'Kamen Rider.' Talented young actor Sosuke Ikematsu portrays the new generation's protagonist, Takeshi Hongo. With a modern style infused with nostalgic elements, the film invites audiences to relive the classic tale of Kamen Rider 1 and 2 joining forces against the evil organization 'Shocker,' which seeks to conquer the world. The designs of Kamen Riders and monsters appearing in the film have also been faithfully recreated.
'Figure-rise Standard Kamen Rider (Shin Kamen Rider)' largely recreates the in-show appearance, utilizing multi-color molded parts in black, light green, dark green, red, flesh tone, white, metallic silver, clear, and more to express the body's colors. While the overall design structure may seem similar to previous Rider products, the molds for the black and dark green parts have undergone special processing, allowing the produced parts to exhibit the rough texture of leather.
The red scarf and light green energy converter express their texture through varying degrees of gloss. The silver parts on the head and belt have undergone 'EXTRA FINISH' processing, achieving a brilliant metallic silver texture. The compound eyes use clear parts to provide high transparency. Even in an unpainted, straight-build state, the model largely reproduces the in-show appearance.
The most distinctive design of this version, namely the exposed jaw, neck, and rear hair – all human features – are thoroughly reproduced. In addition to the movable rear hair reducing interference with neck articulation, the protruding Adam's apple on the neck is also recreated.
All costume parts feature rich wrinkle details. To pursue realism, these wrinkles are all asymmetrical in design. Gaps created when parts are joined are cleverly concealed by protruding seams on the costume, making the overall appearance very natural even without seam line removal.
Another characteristic of the 'Shin' version of Kamen Rider is the addition of a large number of screw holes throughout the body to enhance realism. This kit meticulously reproduces these details, including extremely tiny screw hole indentations on the head, back wings, chest and abdomen's energy converter, and the transformation belt.
The red scarf is fitted onto the neck part and can be rotated to adjust its position according to the pose. The hanging scarf can also be replaced with two different shapes: vertically draped or fluttering in the wind.
The accessories also include multiple hand parts, which, combined with the flexible articulated joint design, allow for recreating classic transformation poses, battle stances, leaping from a motorcycle, the special move 'Rider Kick,' and many other scenes!
