Following the release of the "YF-19 Excalibur," BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division in Japan today announced the second installment in their HG 1/100 Macross model kit series: the "YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie (Alto Saotome Custom)," slated for release on August 26, 2023.
The "HG 1/100 YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie" being released this time is the variable fighter piloted by protagonist Alto Saotome in "Macross Frontier The Movie: The Wings of Goodbye." Continuing the design approach of the previous Excalibur, it employs a simple transformation structure using interchangeable parts to recreate its characteristic FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID three-stage transformation. This ensures the machine's aesthetics are not constrained by the transformation mechanism, eliminating worries about damaging parts and making it easier to handle, allowing each joint to achieve more dynamic and powerful poses.
The kit utilizes multiple molded color parts to reproduce the red, black, and white fuselage colors. Areas such as the Fold Quartz and cockpit canopy feature 3 types of polarized molded parts whose colors change with the reflection angle. Additionally, it includes five-layer structural color-correcting stickers made with aluminum vapor deposition on PET film, characterized by their extreme thinness, high opacity, and vibrant color reproduction, allowing for easy recreation of the abundant fuselage markings, intricate sculpted details, and cool machine aesthetics with articulated mechanisms.
In BATTROID mode, the YF-29 also boasts excellent flexible articulation, including pull-out shoulder joints and a three-axis movable joint within the chest, all designed to make the YF-29's movements more natural. For weaponry, it comes with a GUNPOD, shield, and knife. Multiple missile hatches on the shoulders and legs can be deployed, and the shield can store the knife, just as depicted in the series.
Furthermore, Bandai has confirmed that a dedicated expansion parts set for this unit will be released as a PREMIUM BANDAI exclusive. This set will include additional equipment such as a high-power FOLD wave projection device, micro missile pods, and chemical rocket boosters, allowing the YF-29 to form its "Super Pack" equipped configuration.
