BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division of Japan, which offers the highly diverse 1/144 scale Gunpla "HG (High Grade)" series, today announced the latest product from the theatrical film "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM", the "HG 1/144 Black Knight Squad Shiva", scheduled for release on February 23, 2024.
The NOG-M1A1 Black Knight Squad Shiva is one of the Royal Guard's dedicated mobile suits developed by the emerging nation "Foundation" in the film. It is piloted by Shura Serpentine, the Royal Guard Captain and Minister of Defense. Like other Black Knight series mobile suits, this unit is equipped with the new generation "FT Armor" which can significantly resist beam attacks, and a "Beam Cloak" on its back that serves both offensive and defensive functions. It can also generate "afterimages" reminiscent of the Destiny Gundam for high-mobility combat. Furthermore, it is specialized for close-quarters combat, tailored to Shura's sword fighting prowess, and is equipped with three beam sabers, a heat sword, a shield with hidden claws, and beam blades deployed from its toes, among other melee armaments.
The "HG 1/144 Black Knight Squad Shiva" is produced using BANDAI's latest part separation and color molding technology, allowing for a significant recreation of the in-film colors through the molded parts alone. The beam shield effect parts are made with polarized molding material that changes color depending on the viewing angle. It also features a movable joint design called the "SEED Action System", which utilizes multi-axis articulation to expand the range of motion for the neck, shoulders, and upper body, allowing for dynamic action poses characteristic of the SEED series.
Regarding the armament accessories, the heat sword mounted on the right arm can be stored in the rear skirt armor. The shield on the left arm can recreate the claw launching state using the included single-core wire part. Effect parts are also included to recreate the beam blades hidden in the toes. Three sets of beam saber hilts and blades, along with a connecting hilt, are included to recreate its distinctive three-sword style. The beam cloak, deployed from the backpack, is recreated using gradient-printed plastic sheets. Additionally, the armor on both sides of the chest features an expansion mechanism, allowing for the recreation of the "Short Needle Cannon" internal armament firing pose.
