The popular soft vinyl toy series 『MOVIE MONSTER』, released by Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced a new advanced sub-series, 『MOVIE MONSTER KIWAMI』, in collaboration with renowned kaiju sculptor Yuji Sakai. The first product will be the "Godzilla (1989) Osaka Invasion ver." from "Godzilla vs. Biollante," scheduled for release in June 2024.
『MOVIE MONSTER KIWAMI』 is a new series where Japan's premier Godzilla sculptor, Yuji Sakai, oversees product planning and production. Compared to the standard MOVIE MONSTER series, which targets younger audiences and lower price points, this series boasts a higher standard of sculpting and painting, utilizing a richer number of parts. It strives to faithfully reproduce Yuji Sakai's original sculpts, colors, and various artistic commitments, including sharper detailed sculpting and delicate gradient paintwork, significantly recreating the film's appearance.
The first release, "Godzilla (1989) Osaka Invasion ver.," three-dimensionalizes the pose of Godzilla advancing through the high-rise buildings of Osaka in the film "Godzilla vs. Biollante." This Godzilla figure stands approximately 16.5 cm tall and measures 29 cm long, crafted with 32 separate parts. Notably, the mouth parts are independent, and the main dorsal fins are divided into 22 individual parts, allowing for more intricate sculpting and painting of the mouth and dorsal fins. From head to tail, it faithfully reproduces more organic and lifelike lines.
This product also simultaneously offers a luminous color version, the 「Godzilla (1989) Osaka Invasion Luminous Color ver.」, exclusively sold at the official GODZILLA STORE, which was released earlier in December 2023. The molds used for production are the same as the regular version, but the dorsal fin parts are made from clear material and feature a glowing, gradient blue paint application, depicting Godzilla preparing to unleash its atomic breath.
