PLEX Corporation of Japan, in collaboration with X-PLUS Corporation, has announced today the latest product from their "Toho 30cm" series of soft vinyl figures, which features Toho's special effects monsters. This new item, "EVA Unit-02 Beast 'G' Mode Renewal Ver.", is part of the "Godzilla vs. Evangelion" collaboration project, originating from the "Godzilla" and "Evangelion" franchises, and is scheduled for release in February 2024.
The dream collaboration project "Godzilla vs. Evangelion", realized with Hideaki Anno's direction of "Shin Godzilla" as its catalyst, officially launched in 2016. It has since released numerous popular products featuring Godzilla and EVA appearing together. Notably, the pachinko machine "P Godzilla vs. Evangelion ~G-Cells Awaken~" boasts a brand-new story that merges the two universes, depicting Unit-01's mutated form after its body was eroded by G-Cells following an attack by Godzilla's atomic breath. This concept was later brought to life as a model product by PLEX, generating considerable buzz and high demand.
"Toho 30cm EVA Unit-02 Beast 'G' Mode Renewal Ver." is a renewed production based on the first edition released in 2017. Utilizing essentially the same prototype, it brings to life in 3D the original form of EVA Unit-02's Beast Mode Second Form after being eroded by Godzilla's G-Cells. It boasts a catastrophic and powerful size with a total length of 38 cm, meticulously detailing Godzilla-like black hardened skin, coral-like dorsal fins, sharp claws, and an extremely long tail. Simultaneously, it retains Unit-02's characteristic red armor, four-eyed head design, and numerous disengaged limiters on its back.
As for the color application, the official explanation states that it is based on the first edition's color scheme, with additional paintwork inspired by battle scenes. This includes new silver paint on the edges of the armor, mottled water stains, and smudged grime, all depicting damage sustained during combat.
