The robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E.", released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectors' toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., has announced its latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED", the "GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam", slated for release in May 2024.
The GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam is the commander unit among the five prototype mobile suits of the first-generation GAT-X series, secretly developed by the Atlantic Federation. While its appearance seems humanoid like the other four Gundams and it is similarly equipped with armaments such as a beam rifle, beam saber, shield, and vulcan cannons, it actually utilizes an X300 series frame with a transformation mechanism, allowing it to transform into a cephalopod-like MA (Mobile Armor) form. In its transformed state, the Aegis Gundam can unleash astonishing high-speed assault combat capabilities in space, using its transformed limbs as claws to firmly grasp enemy mobile suits. At extremely close range, it can fire the 580mm "Scylla" multi-phase energy cannon, capable of sinking a battleship in a single shot. If necessary, it can even activate its self-destruct sequence to take down enemy units with it.
The "ROBOT SPIRITS Aegis Gundam ver. A.N.I.M.E." is sculpted based on the anime's design drafts, brought to life as an articulated figure approximately 13.5 cm tall. It features a refined and sharp armor design, faithfully reproducing characteristic details such as the large head sensor unit, and the large thrusters on both sides of the waist and on the back. In its MS (Mobile Suit) form, it boasts an extremely flexible joint design, allowing it to be equipped with armaments like the beam rifle and shield. Beam effects can be attached to its limbs to recreate the built-in beam sabers, and booster effects are also included to be attached to the thrusters on both sides of its waist.
Furthermore, this product is the first mobile suit in the "ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E." series to feature an MA transformation mechanism. By replacing certain parts, its highly menacing high-speed assault MA form can be recreated. The claws formed by its transformed limbs naturally feature articulated joints, and a powerful beam cannon effect can be attached to the central part to recreate the "Scylla" firing scene!
