The popular die-cast toy series 'METAL BUILD', released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, today unveiled for the first time the prototype of its latest work, the "Impulse Gundam", from 'Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY'. Release date is undetermined.
The ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam is a cutting-edge machine from the "Second Generation Series" developed under the leadership of P.L.A.N.T. Chairman Gilbert Durandal. Although restricted by the Junius Treaty from using a nuclear engine, its new deuterium beam power supply system still provides stable energy. Furthermore, it developed a brand-new equipment swapping mechanism, the "Silhouette System," inspired by the Striker Packs of the Strike Gundam. This system allows equipment to be transported to the battlefield by drones, enabling form changes without returning to the mothership. Among these, the most versatile "Force Type" equipment features a high-mobility thruster pack on its back, providing excellent flight capabilities in both space and within the atmosphere.
Currently, only the main body design of the "METAL BUILD Impulse Gundam" has been revealed. Continuing the style of the previous Strike Gundam, it boasts a more refined design compared to the Astray series, with rich details sculpted onto its armor. The exposed die-cast frame conveys a substantial texture, and both the head sculpt, which is the soul of the mobile suit, and its overall physique are remarkably sharp and cool. However, the transformation and combination mechanism, formed by the three machines, has not yet been clarified.
Judging by METAL BUILD's recent sales strategy, it is highly likely that the three basic Silhouette Packs – Force Type, Sword Type, and Blast Type – will be released consecutively in the future. There's even a possibility that they will be integrated into the 'ALTERNATIVE STRIKE' project, allowing the Impulse, Strike, and Astray system packs to be mutually compatible.
