The ultra high-end alloy finished model series "METAL STRUCTURE", released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., today unveiled the latest prototype, "RX-178 Gundam Mk-II" from "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam," at the annual TAMASHII NATION 2023 exhibition. Release date is yet to be determined.
In Universal Century 0087, the "Titans," an elite radical faction of the Earth Federation Forces advocating Earth supremacy, sought to assert their legitimacy over the pro-space faction "AEUG." They excluded engineers with Zeon backgrounds and appointed Franklin Bidan, protagonist Kamille's father, to lead the development of the "RX-178 Gundam Mk-II," the successor to the "RX-78 Gundam" series, which had turned the tide of the One Year War. Although this mobile suit possessed an extremely similar external appearance and armament, the entire unit was constructed using the latest contemporary technology. Notably, the implementation of a "movable frame" significantly enhanced its mobility, expandability, and ease of maintenance.
"METAL STRUCTURE" thoroughly re-analyzes fictional mobile suits from their appearance, design, performance, equipment, and other settings. Through methods such as isometric perspective sketching and detailed mechanical verification, imagination is transformed into reality. It also incorporates accumulated issues and analyses to derive unprecedented structures and design concepts, culminating in a new product that is the crystallization of extensive effort. Utilizing thousands of parts made from die-cast alloy, ABS, POM, PVC, etched parts, and more, it showcases the pinnacle of craftsmanship.
As seen in the newly unveiled "RX-178 Gundam Mk-II" prototype, the entire unit not only boasts extremely precise internal mechanical structures, exterior armor designs, and rich metallic colors and body markings, but also incorporates numerous and intricate armor and maintenance hatch deployment mechanisms. It evokes the same excitement as seeing the "PG 1/60 Gundam Mk-II" for the first time over 20 years ago. In addition to the main body, accessories include armaments such as a beam rifle and shield, as well as various maintenance stands, searchlights, maintenance crew figures, and other abundant parts, allowing for the display of a hangar bay scene.
