Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS toy company's popular die-cast action figure series "Soul of Chogokin", in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Chogokin brand, has announced the latest product from "Golion", the "Soul of Chogokin GX-71SP Golion/Voltron CHOGOKIN 50th Ver.", slated for release in June 2024.
The giant robot Golion, formed by the combination of five mechanical space lions, is a legendary robot from the Japanese anime "Golion". In the series, this machine of unknown origin once rampaged through the universe in ancient times, invincible, even audaciously challenging the Space Goddess. After being subdued, its body was separated into five mechanical lions and sealed away. Thousands of years later, the Galra Empire launched invasions and massacres across numerous planets. Princess Fala, the sole survivor of the Kingdom of Altea, to combat them, unsealed Golion and entrusted it to five imprisoned Earth youths to pilot.
The "Soul of Chogokin GX-71SP Golion/Voltron CHOGOKIN 50th Ver." is a modified version of the general release from 2016. The entire figure is constructed from ABS, PVC, and numerous die-cast parts. Each of the five lions features flexible articulation and dedicated weaponry, allowing for dynamic battle poses when played with individually. It also boasts a transformation and combination mechanism that requires no part swapping, faithfully recreating its appearance when combining into the robot "Golion" as seen in the series. After combination, it maintains cool proportions and articulation, capable of wielding the 30 cm long "Jūōken" (Ten King Sword), dual swords, and spinning laser blades, and even recreating the special move "Four Lions Attack" where the four colored lion heads on its limbs fire!
The modifications in this version pay homage to the color scheme of the 1981 "DX Chogokin" release. This includes the black lion's abdomen and thighs, the red lion's abdomen, and the green lion's abdomen and neck area, all of which have been re-finished with silver electroplating to achieve a luxurious mirror-like sheen. The display stand, which can hold weapons, has also been changed from the previous gray-blue to black, matching the standard for the Soul of Chogokin series.
