Japanese model manufacturer CCP's high-end GK model product series, 'Phantom Ultimate Sculpt', announced that its latest collaboration with Japanese sculptor SUSUKI Garage (Susuki Togeno), the 'Giant Legion', will be available for pre-order on CCPJAPAN starting January 16, 2024, with an estimated release in June 2024.
The protagonist this time is the powerful enemy, Legion, who appeared in the 1996 film 'Gamera 2: Attack of Legion' and battled Gamera. Resembling an terrestrial arthropod, it is a 'silicon-based mechanical lifeform' that descended to Earth with a meteorite. It possesses a carapace capable of reflecting electromagnetic waves, and its joints move using high-pressure oxygen for propulsion, giving it strong reproductive capabilities. While individual organisms are typically 1-2 meters tall, the mother Legion can reach a total length of 160 meters. Its head features 10 sharp interference wave claws that can emit various electromagnetic waves, nullifying Gamera's fireballs. It can also spread its large horns on either side of its mouth to converge microwaves and unleash a powerful beam.
The pose and color scheme of the 'CCP×SUSUKI Garage Giant Legion' are inspired by the powerful stance depicted in the 1996 movie poster drawn by Mitsuaki Hashimoto, showing it attacking Gamera with outstretched claws amidst a sea of fire. The entire body is composed of 60 intricately sculpted parts. With substantial dimensions of 40x30x45cm, it resembles a colossal fortress. The detailed sculpting further enhances the insect-like carapace from the film, giving it the appearance of a thick, crustacean-like shell. The base was meticulously crafted with supervision from Kadokawa, depicting the buildings of Ashikaga City trampled into ruins.
The product will be available in an unpainted, assembly-required 'GK Model Kit Version' and a pre-painted 'Colored Version'. The unpainted GK kit version requires self-assembly and painting; all parts have been sanded and cleaned, ready for direct painting, and some parts are pre-pinned for convenience. The colored version is painted in a heavy style inspired by the poster, meticulously capturing the hard texture, gradient colors, and shadows of the carapace, while the lower half depicts the orange-red hues of the firelight from the ruins below reflecting upwards.
