Issued by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the "METAL ROBOT Damashii" series, which combines metallic texture painting and an alloy frame, today officially announced the latest product from the theatrical anime film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the "Akatsuki Gundam (Shiranui Pack) SEED FREEDOM Ver.", scheduled for release in September 2024. This product will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The ORB-01 Akatsuki Gundam is the flagship MS of the Orb military, built by the Orb state-owned enterprise "Morgenroete, Inc.". This unit was designed based on data from the "GAT-X105 Strike Gundam" and can swap between the "Oowashi Pack" for atmospheric use and the "Shiranui Pack" for space. The Akatsuki places great emphasis on its defensive system; its dazzling golden coating is not merely decorative, but rather the beam-reflecting mirror armor "Yata no Kagami," which allows it to remain virtually unscathed even when hit by a battleship's "Positron Cannon." In the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the Akatsuki Gundam reappears, once again piloted by Mu La Flaga. Although it has not undergone improvements like other returning mobile suits, it is equipped with the new enhanced armament "Zeus Silhouette" and actively participates in battle.
The "METAL ROBOT Damashii Akatsuki Gundam (Shiranui Pack) SEED FREEDOM Ver." is a modification of the regular version released in 2020. The entire unit features newly designed body markings corresponding to the theatrical version's affiliated organization, the World Peace Monitoring Organization "COMPASS", and some body color schemes have also been adjusted. The most significant change is the display stand, which adopts the new design seen in recent "METAL ROBOT Damashii" series releases, featuring a stronger articulated stand and redesigned hot-stamped patterns. The design of other parts remains the same as the regular version, thus it cannot equip the separately sold "Zeus Silhouette".
The golden armor is produced using vacuum deposition technology, resulting in a thinner film layer compared to standard plating, which gives the armor surface a dazzling golden luster. Areas prone to wear, such as joints, are made with electrolytic plating, which has a stronger film layer. Multiple parts of the frame are made of alloy material, and the exposed frames on the chest and shoulders are electrostatically painted to enhance the substantial feel of the alloy. The armament includes the "Type 73J2 Prototype Twin Beam Saber," the Type 72D5 Beam Rifle "Hyakurai," the Type 71 Prototype Shield, and the "M531R Guided Mobile Beam Turret System," characteristic of the Shiranui Pack. Special effect parts are included to recreate the firing state of the seven turrets.
