The assembly model "MODEROID" series, launched by the Japanese brand MECHA SMILE, recently announced its latest product from "Mobile Police Patlabor", the "AVS-98 Economy", scheduled for release in October 2024.
The AVS-98 Economy Ingram is a test-type Labor designed to be a mass-production version of the Ingram. Its sensor components and suspension system were simplified, and its software system was made interchangeable with the Ingram, with an overall cost approximately one-tenth of the Ingram's. However, after a test ride, Shinohara Asuma felt that its functions and performance were overly simplified. As expected, it suffered a crushing defeat in a subsequent battle against "TYPE-J9 Griffon", revealing multiple performance issues. Ultimately, the plan to introduce this machine was canceled, and it was replaced by the "AVS-98 MARK II Standard Ingram," which was developed through subsequent improvements.
The "MODEROID AVS-98 Economy" is constructed from multi-color molded parts, pre-painted parts, and water-slide decals. Once assembled, it stands approximately 13.5 cm tall. Its overall design and red-and-white color scheme largely reproduce its appearance from the series, featuring sculpted wrinkles at the joints and transparent head and chest cockpit covers. The unit also boasts flexible articulated joints, allowing it to be posed in various combat stances with interchangeable hand parts and weapons such as a 6-shot revolver, shield, and anti-Labor stun stick (long/short).
