GOOD SMILE COMPANY of Japan has announced the latest addition to its affordable pre-painted figure series "POP UP PARADE": the "Kaiju No. 8" pre-painted figure, based on Naoya Matsumoto's Japanese manga series "Kaiju No. 8"! It is scheduled for release starting September 2024, with a suggested retail price of 5,500 JPY (tax included).
The story of "Kaiju No. 8" is set in Japan, a country with an extremely high rate of kaiju appearances. The protagonist, Kafka Hibino, harbored a grand ambition since childhood to join the Defense Force and fight kaiju. However, due to repeated failures in the entrance exams, he had long given up on joining the Defense Force and instead took up work disposing of kaiju corpses, reaching the age of 32. One day, a young man named Reno Ichikawa became Kafka's junior. Unexpectedly, the two were suddenly attacked by a kaiju. After saving Reno, Kafka resolved to try joining the Defense Force once more. However, that very night, Kafka was invaded by an unknown creature, transforming him into an incredibly powerful kaiju, subsequently dubbed "Kaiju No. 8" by the world...
The "POP UP PARADE Kaiju No. 8" stands approximately 17 cm tall, capturing Kafka Hibino in a powerful pose with clenched fists, arms extended backward, and a lowered center of gravity, ready to unleash a mighty blow! The skull-like facial bones, sharp horns, the scaly thick skin extending from the neck to the chest and shoulders, the fin-like bones on the back, and the layered hard outer shell covering the torso and limbs are all excellently sculpted. Even the intricate muscle fibers visible in the gaps of the hard shells at the hips and knees are finely detailed, and the blue areas on the body surface are faithfully reproduced. However, after looking at its forward-gazing eyes for a while, they surprisingly exude a touch of cuteness!
