Hong Kong-based Playmates Toys, known for releasing classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys, will once again launch an 80s-era TMNT-themed product: the "Classic Turtle Blimp Vehicle" model. The suggested retail price is US$39.99, with an anticipated release in November 2024!
The "Turtle Blimp Vehicle" toy first appeared in 1989 as one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vehicles released by Playmates. Over the past 30-plus years, it has been reissued several times and adapted for different generations of TMNT animated series, making it one of the most iconic vehicles in the toy line!
This "Classic Turtle Blimp" is another reissue following the 2021 release, composed of a plastic frame and an inflatable balloon. The balloon perfectly pays homage to the 1989 version, reaching an impressive 76.2 cm when fully inflated. Its exquisite printing and cleverly designed illustrations exude the full street aesthetic of the original Ninja Turtles! The plastic frame, however, adopts the design from the 2012 Nickelodeon animated series, meaning it does not feature the original bomb-dropping function and the bottom wheels have been removed. While the proportions may not be entirely identical, it can still smoothly carry all classic Playmates Ninja Turtles figures, and the Turtles can be raised and lowered using the grappling hook for play, making the overall design a faithful recreation of the classic!
