Bandai's "MOVIE MONSTER Series King Ghidorah (1964) Phantom Color Ver." Recreates Legendary Original Version to Commemorate 60th Anniversary!

The popular soft vinyl toy "MOVIE MONSTER" series, released by Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced its latest product themed after "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster" to commemorate King Ghidorah's 60th anniversary: "King Ghidorah Phantom Color Ver." It has a suggested retail price of 4,950 JPY and is scheduled for release in February 2025!

The popular monster "King Ghidorah," who first appeared in the 1964 film "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster," is, in the story, a cosmic super-monster born from the fiery karma of Venus, emerging from a Venusian meteorite explosion. Its design prototype combined the Yamata no Orochi from the tokusatsu film "The Birth of Japan" and the three-headed dragon from the Soviet film "Ilya Muromets and the Nightingale the Robber," incorporating features of mythical beasts like Komainu and Qilin. Initially, it had a blue-green body and vividly colored wings with red, yellow, and blue gradients. However, "because a monster from Venus should be golden," it was changed to its current, most iconic all-golden scales.

The unadopted version only appeared in early production stills and posters. After 60 years, it has become a legendary "phantom color scheme." To commemorate King Ghidorah's birth, this special "MOVIE MONSTER King Ghidorah Phantom Color Ver." is being released. It is produced as a large soft vinyl model, approximately 20 cm tall and 26.5 cm long. To express King Ghidorah's power, its massive wings and characteristic three heads are intricately sculpted, each with a different expression. It recreates the striking special color scheme of a blue body and gradient wings, with subtle golden brushstrokes on the abdomen to highlight the intricate scales and shadow details.
