BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division in Japan is set to release its latest product, "HG Gunleon," from "Super Robot Wars Z" on October 26, 2024. Official new information, including the product box art design and actual sample images, has been unveiled just before its release.
The cool box illustration was drawn by renowned animator and mechanical designer Masami Obari, showcasing the full metallic luster and intricate details in the style of Japanese robot anime.
The original robot Gunleon appeared in the game "Super Robot Wars Z," released in 2008. It is the unit piloted by the hot-blooded Super Robot protagonist "Rand Travis" and his fiancée "Mail Beater," who players can initially choose. Normally, they use this unit to run a repair shop business, maintaining machinery with its giant repair wrench and various tools mounted all over its body. What appears to be a high-performance engineering machine actually possesses a hidden function to transform into its combat form, "Full Power Mode," which not only fully unleashes the unit's performance but also turns its everyday repair tools into extremely powerful weapons.
The "HG Gunleon" is produced using Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology, largely recreating the full body's armament colors with multiple molded part colors. Plastic sheet stickers are used to reproduce the yellow and black warning stripes, while the car-light-like sections on the front skirt armor are rendered with jewel stickers. Thanks to its flexible movable joint design, various combat poses from the game can be recreated. By replacing some parts and utilizing transformation mechanisms like the backpack wings, the powerful lion-like appearance of its combat form, "Full Power Mode," can be reproduced.
The massive anti-ship repair wrench, "Raging Giant Wrench," boasts an impressive length of 23 cm. It can also transform into Full Power Mode along with the main body, deploying its giant claws and internal drill. Furthermore, various weapons are stored throughout the body, including two "Chainsaw Swords," two "Large Nail Guns," and two "Deca Wrenches." These can be equipped using dedicated hand parts, allowing for the recreation of various attack poses from the game!
