PLEX Corporation of Japan, in collaboration with X-PLUS Corporation, has announced the latest product from their soft vinyl figure line, the 'GIGANTIC SERIES,' known for its intricate details and massive scale. The new 'Godzilla (2002)', based on the film "Godzilla x Mechagodzilla," is scheduled for release in April 2025.
The Godzilla featured in "Godzilla x Mechagodzilla" is established as the same species that attacked Japan sequentially with the original Godzilla. Standing approximately 55 meters tall, it boasts a reptilian-like head, sharp, massive dorsal fins, and other design elements that are somewhat similar to "Godzilla 2000" but more refined and compact. Its body color reverts to the traditional dark gray skin and silver dorsal fins. In 1999, this Godzilla landed on Japan's Boso Peninsula, causing significant devastation. The Anti-Beast Maser Cannons of the Special Self-Defense Force proved ineffective, leading the Japanese government to decide on salvaging the bones of the original Godzilla to construct the powerful anti-G weapon, "Type-3 Kiryu."
The "Gigantic Series Godzilla (2002)" is meticulously sculpted to an impressive height of approximately 47 cm and a total length of 77 cm, faithfully recreating the suit's on-screen appearance. It captures the sharp, grayish-white dorsal fins, the fierce head sculpt, and the prominent hard spines extending from both sides of the neck and jaw down to the tail. The exquisite paint application brings out the moist look of the eyes and the yellowish gradient on the teeth and claws, giving it an incredibly lifelike biological feel.
The Limited Edition, available exclusively at the X-PLUS official online store, includes an additional interchangeable 'closed-mouth head part,' allowing collectors to display the distinctive protruding canine teeth when the mouth is shut. Following this announcement, anticipation is high for the possibility of "Type-3 Kiryu," Godzilla's adversary in the film, making a grand appearance in the GIGANTIC SERIES at a massive scale.
