The HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd. has announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam UC" for its "RG (Real Grade)" series, which incorporates exterior armor, internal frame, interlocking armor, and new technologies into 1/144 scale Gunpla. The "Unicorn Gundam Unit 02 Banshee Norn (Final Battle Specification) [Special Coating Version]" is scheduled for release in February 2025.
The RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Unit 02 "Banshee" was developed in a gravity environment based on feedback from Unit 01's spatial maneuverability. Its basic performance does not differ significantly from Unit 01, but it possesses various psycho-frame-equipped specialized armaments called "Armed Armor." In the anime version, the Banshee further evolved into a new form, the "Norn" type, with fully enhanced armaments and performance. The "Armed Armor XC" mounted on its back not only serves as an auxiliary generator but also links with the head antenna to enhance its ability to send and receive psycho-waves. This allows even Lieutenant Riddhe, who has lower Newtype abilities, to receive psycho-waves.
The "RG 1/144 Unicorn Gundam Unit 02 Banshee Norn (Final Battle Specification) [Special Coating Version]" is based on the previously released standard version. The entire machine's jet-black armor is re-rendered with a metallic special coating, reflecting an elegant light blue sheen that changes with the viewing angle. Yellow parts such as the antenna and chest armor have also been changed to gold-plated parts, adding a weighty metallic texture. The accessories also include mirror-finished water-slide decals, which, when applied to various parts of the mobile suit, will create an even more brilliant texture.
The rest of the specifications are essentially the same as the standard version. Utilizing a new internal frame that incorporates "ADVANCED MS JOINT," "locking mechanisms," and "linking mechanisms," it precisely reproduces the transformation mechanism from "Unicorn Mode" to "Destroy Mode" in 1/144 scale, revealing the awakened green psycho-frame within. Armaments include the "Armed Armor XC," "Armed Armor DE," "Beam Magnum (equipped with Revolving Launcher)," and Beam Sabers, all mounted during the final battle.
