The documentary film "Grand Theft Hamlet," crafted by independent studio Altitude Media Group using "Grand Theft Auto V's" online mode, "GTA Online," has officially unveiled its first trailer. This comes after the film won the Innovation Award at the 2022 Stage Awards and the Documentary Feature Grand Jury Award at this year's SXSW Film Festival, with the movie described as featuring "Shakespearean tragic elements."
As previously reported, "Grand Theft Hamlet" initially began as a casual project by Altitude Media Group during the 2021 COVID-19 lockdown, created simply to pass the time. However, after unexpectedly catching the attention of art-house film distributor Mubi, the film began its festival run and distribution arrangements. In addition to a confirmed North American theatrical release, plans are also in place for a global streaming debut.
"Grand Theft Hamlet" will center on the absurd, humorous, and moving adventures of two unemployed theater actors, Sam Crane and Mark Oosterveen. The film is slated to hit North American theaters on January 17, 2025.
