Japan's Bandai Spirits is releasing the "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla - Appearance!! Fake Godzilla Set" as part of its popular soft vinyl toy series, "MOVIE MONSTER SERIES," themed after the classic monster film "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla"! The suggested retail price is 6,800 JPY, with an estimated release in July 2025.
Released in 1974, "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" (ゴジラ対メカゴジラ) is the 14th film in the Godzilla series and commemorates Godzilla's 20th anniversary. Mechagodzilla, created by the Black Hole Planet 3 Aliens, made its debut in this film. As a dragon-shaped mechanical monster modeled after Godzilla's appearance, its specific settings have varied slightly in subsequent films, but the consistent commonality is that it was "created with the purpose of defeating Godzilla."
The "MOVIE MONSTER SERIES Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla - Appearance!! Fake Godzilla Set" recreates Mechagodzilla's initial appearance scene, cleverly depicting Mechagodzilla disguised as Godzilla just before completing its transformation. The set includes "Fake Godzilla," which looks identical to Godzilla (1974), but its right arm's outer skin has partially peeled off after being attacked, revealing the mechanical surface underneath! The overall color tone has been re-adjusted based on its appearance in the film.
Additionally, there is the "Mechagodzilla (1974) Debut Scene Ver.," which captures Mechagodzilla's initial appearance as it sheds its disguise! It faithfully reproduces the transformation moment where the surface Godzilla skin is burned away, revealing its full silver-white metallic body glowing with light. The lower body below the arms is made of a translucent material containing glitter and gold powder, while the upper body features a gradient of heavy metallic paint, creating a strong contrast. Furthermore, subtle flame-effect paintwork is applied to evoke the scene where its true identity is exposed under the reflection of fire.
