Japan's Megahouse toy company, under its "LOOK UP" series, which features numerous anime and manga characters in an upward-gazing chibi figure style, has simultaneously launched two new products based on the popular anime "The Elusive Samurai" – the Hojo Tokiyuki and Suwa Yorishige chibi figures. Each is priced at 4,950 JPY and is scheduled for release in late July 2025!
"The Elusive Samurai" is a historical manga by Yusei Matsui, author of the bestselling "Assassination Classroom," serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2021. In 2024, it was adapted into a TV anime by CloverWorks. The story recounts how, in 1333, the Tokuso Hojo clan was annihilated by the rebellious Ashikaga Takauji, and Kamakura fell. Hojo Tokiyuki, the Hojo clan's heir who was always skilled at escaping, managed to flee in disguise with the help of the Shinto priest Suwa Yorishige, hiding while preparing to launch a rebellion.
Both LOOK UP figures in this release stand approximately 11 cm tall. They capture Tokiyuki and Suwa Yorishige in their iconic priestly attire from the series, rendered in an adorable approximately 2.5-head-tall chibi proportion. Despite the chibi scale, various character details are faithfully reproduced! Tokiyuki sports a shy smile, while Suwa's open-mouthed grin inexplicably appears somewhat sinister. Both figures feature simple articulation in their heads, allowing for slight adjustments to their gaze.
