Last week, Benedict Cumberbatch made headlines during a " target="_blank">Variety interview when he unexpectedly claimed that Doctor Strange would not appear in "Avengers: Doomsday" (a speculated title for "Avengers 5"), stating the storyline had no place for him until "Avengers: Secret Wars," where he would return as a pivotal character. However, in a new interview with Business Insider, Cumberbatch has now walked back those comments.

When asked at the Sundance Film Festival by Business Insider if his earlier announcement about Doctor Strange's absence from "Doomsday" had triggered any internal Marvel Studios' secrecy protocols, Cumberbatch immediately clarified, "I misspoke. I am in the next one." He then jokingly added, "Don't believe anything I say."

"Doomsday" (referring to "Avengers 5") is set to see the return of the Russo Brothers as directors, with Stephen McFeely, who penned four previous Marvel films for the duo, also returning as screenwriter. Other confirmed cast members include Anthony Mackie as the current Captain America, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Robert Downey Jr. reportedly recast as the villain Doctor Doom, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and the four main cast members of "The Fantastic Four." The film is slated for a May 1st release in North America.
