To commemorate the 45th anniversary of the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, the 1/100 scale Gundam model kit series "MG (Master Grade)", known for its excellent part separation, internal frame structure, and rich articulation, has announced its latest collaboration product with the design brand "fragment", the "RX78FRGMT GUNDAM"
As part of the Gundam series' 45th-anniversary project, "Mobile Suit Gundam" is collaborating with Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, known as the "Godfather of Ura-Harajuku". Under his renowned design brand "fragment", several original design products personally supervised by Fujiwara will be launched. A pop-up store, "GUNDAM45FRGMT", will also be featured at the V.A. concept store in Omotesando, Tokyo, from February 1st to 24th, 2025.
The collaborative product "MG 1/100 RX78FRGMT GUNDAM" is based on the previously released "Gundam Ver.3.0" with modifications. Its overall styling and design inherit the characteristics of the RG version. The mobile suit's frame not only features intricate internal structures but is also made from paintable materials. It also incorporates the elaborate "movable armor system" structure, allowing the frame to extensively link with the armor, thereby enhancing the range of motion of each joint and enabling more natural poses. Additionally, it features a core fighter storage design in the abdomen, fully articulated hands, and "Realistic Decals" that add detailed texture.
The original gray color scheme designed by Mr. Hiroshi Fujiwara is reproduced with new molding colors, using various shades of gray to express the layering of each part of the mobile suit's armor. This not only makes the sharp contours and engraved details of the armor more prominent but also gives it a stronger sense of weight. The shield part is made with new parts, reproducing the two lightning bolt patterns of the fragment brand LOGO with separate black parts. The Realistic Decals also feature a new design, reproducing black lines, the model number "RX78FRGMT" text, and other patterns throughout the entire machine.
Weapon accessories include a beam rifle, two beam sabers, a shield, a hyper bazooka, and a core fighter, allowing the Gundam main body to be equipped and posed in various combat stances. Furthermore, the product's outer packaging also features a design different from the standard version, transforming the "V Operation Manual", which details the Gundam's operation in the show, into the outer box.
