With the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, gamers worldwide are eagerly anticipating its release, with pre-order lotteries already seeing intense competition. This highlights the immense excitement for the latest next-gen console, as everyone is keen to get their hands on it. However, many are concerned that the console's launch will once again trigger a wave of scalping and resale.
Nintendo Co., Ltd. Japan announced today (May 27) that it will collaborate with three major Japanese online auction platforms to implement measures preventing illicit listings of "Nintendo Switch 2" and other related Nintendo products, ahead of the console's anticipated launch on June 5, 2025.

The platforms collaborating to prevent illicit listings are:
Mercari (Operated by Mercari, Inc.)
Yahoo! Auctions / Yahoo! Flea Market (Operated by LINE Yahoo Corporation)
Rakuma (Operated by Rakuten Group, Inc.)
These three are among Japan's most widely used auction websites. Nintendo and the aforementioned platform operators have reached an agreement to jointly implement anti-scalping measures for illicit listings of Nintendo products, such as the "Nintendo Switch 2." These actions include: platforms proactively deleting listings of infringing products, establishing a collaborative information-sharing mechanism between Nintendo and the platforms, and strengthening a joint system for verifying and preventing violations.

The announcement has garnered significant attention from many players. While the primary intention is to combat scalping and reduce high-priced resales by malicious individuals on these three major platforms, many netizens remain concerned about the actual limitations of such measures. Some have suggested more stringent actions, such as restricting shipments from detected sellers and revoking their user privileges. The effectiveness will ultimately depend on the official enforcement methods employed.
However, these measures are currently limited to Japan. Some players also believe that the key to combating scalping for the "Nintendo Switch 2" should be to increase production capacity, ensuring that enough consoles are available to meet player demand, which would naturally prevent price inflation by resellers. It remains to be seen how the market will react once the Nintendo Switch 2 officially ships.
