Gunpla Builder Transforms HG Gelgoog Visor into Translucent Masterpiece, Fans Rave: "Now THAT'S a GM!"

If you're into Gunpla, you've probably dabbled in all sorts of customization techniques – painting, panel lining, weathering, or even full-blown themed builds. It's all about making your model truly unique!

This time, we're spotlighting Gunpla enthusiast and X (formerly Twitter) user 塩ペッパー (@pepper_siokosyo). They took the "HG 1/144 Gelgoog (Sugai Custom/GQ)" kit from the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" and gave its solid "face visor" a stunning translucent makeover, earning massive praise from fellow Gunpla fans.

The inspiration? When the Gelgoog from "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" first appeared, many fans immediately drew comparisons to the Earth Federation's iconic "GM" mobile suit from the original "Mobile Suit Gundam." The resemblance in design and color scheme (especially for Sugai's custom unit) was undeniable.

While lore states it's a mass-production unit developed after Char stole Gundam data, its familiar name clashed with a completely different design. This left many veteran fans scratching their heads, wondering, "Is this really the Gelgoog I know?"

In the official "HG 1/144 Gelgoog (Sugai Custom/GQ)" kit, the visor was just a plain blue-green piece, lacking that "techy" transparent feel that many modelers found a bit disappointing. 塩ペッパー's mod instantly elevates its look, giving it that classic GM vibe. Netizens went wild, praising it with comments like, "Seriously cool!" "Now THIS is what it should look like!" and "Transparent visors are the only way to go!"

They shared their technique: brush-painting a silver base coat, then filling it with UV resin, sanding and polishing, and finally applying a transparent blue-green topcoat. The results are undeniably stunning.

▼ With the mod and gear on, it looks even more like a GM! LOL.

Of course, you don't have to specifically aim for a GM-inspired look, but this painting and modification technique is super practical. If you're feeling inspired, definitely give it a try!
