Every Gunpla builder knows the thrill of making a kit their own. Whether it's custom paint jobs, intricate cuts, or battle-worn weathering, these techniques bring our plastic pals to life. But what about building a mobile suit that hasn't even hit the market yet? Now that's next-level dedication!
Recently, Japanese Gunpla maestro Ayapon (@Ayapons45) blew up X (formerly Twitter) with their incredible custom build: the "GFreD" piloted by Nean from the latter half of "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX". Using existing Bandai Gunpla as a base, and a mix of putty and plastic sheets, Ayapon crafted a model so slick, you'd swear it was an official Bandai release. The internet, naturally, went wild.

The gMS-κ GFreD is the second unit of the Gundam GQuuuuuuX, developed by the Principality of Zeon's Kishiria Zabi faction in the lunar city of Granada. Piloted by Nean, who joined the Zeon forces, this mobile suit instantly grabbed attention when it debuted in Episode 8 of the anime, largely thanks to its striking resemblance to Evangelion Unit-01's color scheme.

Here's the kicker: Ayapon pulled this off within a week of Episode 8 airing! While Bandai has yet to release any official models for the GFreD, Ayapon basically beat them to the punch, creating a stunning rendition long before any official kit could even be announced.
The build primarily uses the "HG 1/144 GQuuuuuuX" as its foundation. Ayapon meticulously handcrafted the GFreD's distinctive head design using plastic sheets and brass wire. For the paint job, they went with the mobile suit's signature purple, even opting for the "Evangelion" color series from Gaia Notes – a cheeky nod to its Unit-01 doppelgänger status right from its first appearance.

The backpack was connected with 2mm diameter brass wire, featuring a post-embedding modification. The thruster tips were sharpened using 0.3mm plastic sheets and super glue putty.

The hemispherical shoulder parts were swapped out for Kotobukiya's M.S.G plastic spike units, reshaped with putty into a conical form to perfectly match the GFreD's look. The head, including its "open-face" mode, was entirely scratch-built from plastic materials and 0.3mm brass wire, referencing both design sketches and anime screenshots.

But it's not just the mobile suit that's a masterpiece! Ayapon even built a hangar-style display base and a tiny pilot figure of Nean! Fans were absolutely floored, exclaiming, "Is this an official model?!", "This has to be the fastest 3D realization ever!", and "Are you a Newtype?!".

When posed, it's genuinely hard to tell this isn't an original GQuuuuuuX Gunpla.

And when placed next to a standard GQuuuuuuX, the sheer number of custom details really shines through.

Seriously, Gunpla masters operate on a whole different level! While Bandai is still prepping their official releases, Ayapon has already delivered a top-tier custom build.
