The classic manga series Hell Teacher Nube is back with a new anime adaptation for the Reiwa era, igniting excitement among long-time fans for its revival. The first episode, which aired yesterday, has already sparked major buzz among viewers.
But recently, Japanese X (formerly Twitter) artist NBO26551241 (@NBO26551241) has taken the internet by storm with his mind-blowing cardboard recreation of the series' iconic "Demon Hand." This isn't just any cardboard craft; the claws are razor-sharp, the bone and muscle definition are astonishing, and the craziest part? The entire hand is made from cardboard! It immediately went viral.
Known for crafting incredibly high-quality pieces that defy their cardboard origins, NBO26551241 frequently shares his work on X. This time, he brought the "Demon Hand" from Hell Teacher Nube – a limb that looks like it's ripped straight from another dimension – to life, wearing it on his own hand. It's like a character just stepped out of the anime and into reality.
NBO26551241, a long-time fan of Hell Teacher Nube, had always wanted to tackle the Demon Hand. However, other projects and the sheer difficulty of the hand's design kept him from starting. It wasn't until the announcement of the new anime adaptation that he decided, "Now's the time!" He then raced against the clock, completing it within a month before the anime's July 2 premiere.
For this project, he specifically focused on two key elements: "articulation" and "presence."
First, "articulation." Cardboard itself lacks elasticity, making flexible parts like fingers incredibly challenging. He had a stroke of genius, drawing inspiration from "bendy straws," creating pleats at the joints to allow the fingers to bend naturally.
To give the Demon Hand its "presence," he poured effort into achieving a three-dimensional and realistic feel. For instance, he used the corrugated core of the cardboard to represent muscle fibers. He also incorporated tears and wrinkles as intricate details. Furthermore, he applied different types of gloss varnish and used dry-brushing techniques to create shadow effects, giving it an incredible sense of weight. From every angle, it's impossible to tell it's made of cardboard!
Hidden inside are antibacterial gloves, ensuring a comfortable fit.
And if you thought that was impressive, NBO26551241 then added paintwork, pushing its power and realism through the roof – completely erasing any hint of cardboard...
Even as an experienced artist, NBO26551241 admitted this project was exceptionally difficult, especially the articulation mechanism, which almost made him give up. "It really makes you question everything..." he said. But he persevered, completing it after four to five reworks. The video he posted shows incredibly fluid finger movement – truly unbelievable for a paper creation!
This insane creation drew widespread awe from netizens, with comments like, "The way the hand connects to the arm is so well done..." and "It's wearable and articulated, how can this possibly be cardboard?!" Even the official Hell Teacher Nube account chimed in with praise, calling it a "demonic" level masterpiece!
