BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment's mobile game, "Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans G," launched in late 2022, promising players a fresh dive into the "Iron-Blooded Orphans" universe with new storylines. However, it shut down after just over a year of operation. But the official word was that an anime adaptation would be made from its content.
Well, surprise! Yesterday (July 25), the official announcement dropped: The special compilation spin-off, "Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urðr Hunt -The Path of the Small Challenger-" (tentative title, 機動戦士ガンダム 鉄血のオルフェンズ ウルズハント -小さな挑戦者の軌跡-), is hitting theaters on October 31!
This theatrical version is a "special compilation film" that re-edits the 12 episodes originally distributed in the mobile game "Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans G," now with brand-new footage. The original director Tatsuyuki Nagai, key production staff, and the voice actor for protagonist Wistario Afam, Rina Ikoma, are all reuniting for this project. It also serves as a special project celebrating the 10th anniversary of "Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans."
Story Synopsis:
P.D. (Post Disaster) 323. A political incident involving Gjallarhorn's intervention in the Arbrau Central Parliament escalated into an armed conflict involving Gundams. The ones who brought peace to this conflict were a group of boys from Mars, known as Tekkadan.
A young boy named Wistario Afam, born and raised in the Radonitsa Colony on Venus's orbit, also heard tales of Tekkadan's heroic deeds. Venus, once defeated by Mars in colonization efforts, is now a remote planet largely ignored by the four major economic blocs. It suffers from resource scarcity, and its residents lack even basic identification, often treated as exiled criminals.
As Wistario began to harbor thoughts of "wanting to change this homeland," a mysterious girl appeared before him, claiming to be a guide for the "Urðr Hunt."
"Congratulations, from now on, you are qualified to participate in the 'Urðr Hunt.'" This encounter set Wistario on the path to a competition—the "Urðr Hunt"—with prize money so vast it could buy an entire colony.
Talk about keeping a promise! For those who were bummed when the mobile game shut down, this is a sweet redemption, finally letting players complete the story. And as a 10th-anniversary project, what kind of surprises it'll bring to fans remains to be seen!
