Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc" Smashes Box Office, Hits Third All-Time in Japan with ¥29.9 Billion, Closing in on "Spirited Away"

"Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie – Infinity Castle Arc: Chapter One - Akaza's Return" has been an absolute box office juggernaut since its Japanese premiere, and it's been crushing it across Asia since August. Countries like Taiwan and South Korea have seen a massive surge in fans flocking to theaters for the latest Demon Slayer flick.

Today (September 1), the official announcement dropped: "Akaza's Return" has raked in a staggering ¥29.9 billion in Japan after just about a month and a half, officially making it the third highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history! It's even breathing down the neck of the second-place spot.

According to the official "Demon Slayer" X (formerly Twitter) announcement, in just 45 days, the film has pulled in a colossal ¥29,983,483,800, with a mind-blowing 21,102,792 admissions. The post expressed deep gratitude, stating, "To everyone who comes to the cinema every day to support us, and to the theaters that continue to schedule screenings, we are deeply thankful for every bit of support."

As it stands, the reigning champion of Japan's all-time box office is still 2020's "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train," which hauled in a massive ¥40.75 billion. Coming in second is 2001's "Spirited Away" with ¥31.68 billion. The latest entry, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc: Chapter One - Akaza's Return," is currently holding strong at third, just a hair's breadth away from snatching the second spot. It might just claim it soon!

However, surpassing "Mugen Train"'s staggering ¥40.7 billion will require a serious sprint to rack up another ¥10 billion-plus. But given its insane global success, stellar word-of-mouth, and ongoing promotional goodies from the official team, who knows? We might just see it climb to the top spot!
