Gege Akutami's New "Jujutsu Kaisen≡" Spinoff Confirmed for Jump, Set for Half-Year Run and Three Volumes

Today (September 8), the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, No. 41, officially hit shelves! The cover revealed a thrilling new collaboration: Gege Akutami, original creator of "Jujutsu Kaisen," is penning the story, with Yuji Iwasaki, known for illustrating "Cipher Academy," on art. The series is officially titled "Jujutsu Kaisen≡ (Modulo)," and a special announcement video has dropped. The title reveal immediately sparked a frenzy of discussion on X!

The debut chapter is massive, boasting a cover, color pages, and a whopping 54 pages – a seriously grand entrance for a new series!

The story kicks off 68 years after the Culling Game, in the year 2086. One day, a spaceship suddenly appears on Earth, bringing with it a group of extraterrestrial lifeforms calling themselves "Cymrian Star People." Now, the fate of Earth rests on the shoulders of Japanese Jujutsu Sorcerers Makoto Okkotsu and Yuka Okkotsu. When sorcerers clash with aliens, what kind of epic impact and untold stories will this unknown encounter unleash...?

Gege Akutami also shared a message with readers: "Long time no see! During the 'Jujutsu Kaisen' serialization, there were actually suggestions for others to draw a spin-off. But honestly, the thought of someone using the series name without my full control was terrifying, so I didn't agree back then. However, those proposals eventually inspired me, leading to ideas like expanding on the main story's lore, shifting the era, or even creating a parallel world. Among them, the most wild and imaginative idea, '≡ (Modulo),' actually got greenlit in a meeting!'"

He added: "This is a short, focused serialization, roughly half a year (if it doesn't get axed!), totaling about three tankōbon volumes. And Yuji Iwasaki on art? He's seriously amazing! His drawing is incredible! Absolutely gorgeous! I hope everyone enjoys '≡ (Modulo)' as a fresh new gateway into the world of 'Jujutsu Kaisen.'"

Artist Yuji Iwasaki commented: "It's a true honor to receive this offer. When I received Akutami-sensei's storyboards, my main feelings were nervousness and anxiety, wondering if I could really handle it. I still get nervous while drawing, but I'll do my best to bring this new story to both 'Jujutsu Kaisen' fans and newcomers alike. As a reader myself, I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product! Since I've been given this incredible opportunity, I'm going all out and putting my own style into it. It's only for half a year, but please give it your full support!'"
