Japan's popular food information website, "Hot Pepper Gourmet," previously made waves with ads featuring beloved characters from Chibi Maruko-chan, Osomatsu-san, Tensai Bakabon, and Naruto . Now, on September 11, they've dropped another epic anime collaboration!
This time, it's none other than the iconic Char Aznable from the classic anime Mobile Suit Gundam, starring in a brand-new TV commercial titled "Men of Zeon." Kicking off its run on September 11, this ad marks the second installment in their "Anime + Live-Action Series." The theme? "Let's Eat!"—and it gives us a rare glimpse into Char and his Zeon forces enjoying a surprisingly relaxed moment.

The entire ad series revolves around the theme "Let's Eat!" (ごはん、いこっ。), aiming to rekindle the joy and value of dining out by showcasing those happy moments. Their previous "Anime + Live-Action Series," which blended animated characters with real-world settings to reveal a different side of these beloved figures, was a huge hit.

The scene is set on a restaurant's outdoor terrace at night. Char, along with his aide Dren and other subordinates, are gathered around a table, happily chatting and digging into steaks—a stark contrast to the battlefield! In the ad, Dren remarks with surprise, "I can't believe you have moments like this, Major!" to which Char casually replies, "I'm still myself." This warm exchange highlights the easygoing and reassuring bond among comrades.
The commercial concludes with Char's narration: "Perhaps a meal is a form of salvation." It perfectly captures the comfort and warmth that dining out can bring. Oh, and did we mention the voice acting? It's none other than the legendary Shuichi Ikeda!

Even though it's a short commercial, it delivers a unique scene you'll only find here: "Char eating with his subordinates." Blending ACG characters with everyday life like this? You've gotta admit, this ad's creativity really hits home.
