Known for rolling out fresh collaborations every year, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) always packs its annual Universal Cool Japan event with surprises—and plenty of fans eager to make the pilgrimage.
On October 28, the park unveiled another wave of attractions for Universal Cool Japan 2027, including new collaborations based on two works by Hiromu Arakawa: Fullmetal Alchemist and Daemons of the Shadow Realm. They will join a stacked lineup featuring Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, The Apothecary Diaries, and Detective Conan, promising even more ways for visitors to step inside their favorite worlds.

Beginning December 2, USJ will gradually launch its Universal Cool Japan 2027 programs. The event will recreate globally popular Japanese entertainment properties on a massive scale and with high production values, giving guests a fully immersive taste of these "super-real" fictional worlds.

Among the newly announced attractions is USJ’s second collaboration with Fullmetal Alchemist, returning to the park after 22 years. The franchise first teamed up with USJ for the Fullmetal Alchemist Premiere Tour in spring 2005, marking the park’s first collaboration with a Japanese television anime. Now, more than two decades later, the series is finally making its comeback.

Meanwhile, Daemons of the Shadow Realm is currently serialized in Monthly Shonen Gangan. Following its television anime adaptation in spring 2026, a second season has also been confirmed.
Details of the two park experiences have yet to be revealed, but the double dose of Hiromu Arakawa is already plenty to get fans excited. Both attractions are scheduled to open in spring 2027.

USJ has also teased more collaborations with popular anime and games, alongside exclusive merchandise and themed food announcements still to come.
Universal Cool Japan 2027 officially kicks off on December 2, 2026, and is expected to run for around six months. Anyone hoping to soak up the atmosphere should probably start planning that Osaka trip now.
