When it comes to Gunpla paint jobs, beyond the usual panel lining, re-scribing, or subtle shading, we've seen Japanese builders tackle "2D style" finishes and even "art style" coloring techniques.
Today, we're showcasing the incredible work of Gunpla builder and X (formerly Twitter) user Kemushi Factory (@plasticfactory_k). They took on the challenge of an "anime-style" paint job for the God Gundam from "Mobile Fighter G Gundam." The meticulous craftsmanship makes the model look like it leaped straight out of the animation, and the before-and-after comparison truly brings the kit to life, earning widespread praise from fans.
The straight-built God Gundam, without its decals, looks like a mobile suit still waiting for its soul. Of course, since it was destined for a custom paint job, those stickers weren't even necessary.
After applying sharp shadows, distinct outlines, and anime-style highlights, it transforms completely. It no longer looks like a model kit, but a character that has sprung to life from a 2D animation cel! The paint job features intentionally deepened shadows, particularly highlighting the subtle variations within similar color blocks, which makes the kit incredibly vivid. The key, of course, is ensuring those color blocks blend seamlessly; otherwise, any protruding parts would look jarring.
Once assembled, it's nothing short of magnificent! Posing it in various action shots yields truly stunning results, perfectly capturing its on-screen anime presence.
Kemushi Factory has also shared many other anime-style Gundam builds on their personal Instagram and X accounts. Each one is a true work of art and absolutely worth a look!
