If you're a Godzilla fan, chances are you've already made the pilgrimage to a Godzilla Store (ゴジラ・ストア) in Japan. With five locations across Tokyo and Osaka, these shops are absolute havens for kaiju enthusiasts – and definitely a threat to your wallet!
Just this past August, a pop-up store graced the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Taipei Xinyi Place A11. But hold onto your hats, because today (9/16), the official Godzilla Asia fan page dropped a massive announcement: To celebrate Godzilla's 70th anniversary, the first official permanent overseas Godzilla Store is officially opening its doors in Taipei, slated for September 26!
Unlike the temporary pop-up in August, this is the real deal – a full-fledged, permanent retail space. After considering the immense local enthusiasm and strategic location, officials decided to establish Taipei as the home of the brand's sole permanent overseas Godzilla Store. Situated right in the heart of Taipei, it marks a significant milestone for the brand's powerful international market presence.
This overseas expansion is Toho's inaugural step in its ambitious Asian strategy for the Godzilla brand. Through TOHO Entertainment Asia Pte. Ltd., established in Singapore, Toho plans to aggressively promote the brand's growth across Asia. Starting with Taipei, there are future plans to expand the Godzilla Store network to even more Asian cities, further boosting the brand's value and influence.
Every Godzilla Store boasts an iconic, colossal Godzilla statue, and the Taipei location is no exception. This new store will feature a specially crafted, approximately 2-meter-tall "Godzilla Minus One" statue, majestically guarding the entrance.
To celebrate its grand opening on September 26, 2025, the store will roll out exclusive "Godzilla Minus One" themed merchandise, alongside a wide array of products featuring Godzilla, Godziham-kun, and Minilla. From collectible figures and apparel to lifestyle accessories, there's something for everyone – whether you're a die-hard fan or just a curious passerby. Plus, keep an eye out for upcoming announcements, as Taipei-exclusive merchandise is currently in development!
