Which Starter Reigns Supreme in "Pokémon Legends: Z-A"? Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile – Three Styles for Every Adventure

"Pokémon Legends: Z-A" officially dropped today, October 16, 2025! Maybe you've already pulled an all-nighter, diving back into the heart of the Kalos region, Lumiose City, and kicking off a brand-new adventure amidst its neon-lit streets. Or maybe, just maybe, you're still staring at the starter selection screen, wrestling with that age-old question every Trainer faces:

"Which starter Pokémon should I choose?"

Unlike previous "Pokémon" titles that stuck to region-specific starters, "Legends: Z-A" throws a curveball with three fan-favorites from different generations: Grass-type Chikorita, Fire-type Tepig, and Water-type Totodile. Each boasts a distinct personality, and even better, they all gain exclusive Mega Evolutions in their final forms, making your starter pick a blend of strategy and pure heart.

Chikorita

Chikorita is all about stability and staying power. Once it evolves into Meganium, it masters a diverse array of healing and support moves like "Leech Seed" and "Giga Drain," making it perfect for Trainers who love to outsmart their opponents with strategic plays.

In "Z-A," Mega Meganium gains a Grass/Fairy dual-typing, not only becoming immune to Dragon-type attacks but also resisting a whopping six other types!

While its offensive power might not be top-tier, its strength lies in defense, support, and consistent damage output. It's the ideal pick for Trainers who enjoy drawn-out battles and slowly chipping away at their foes.

Tepig

Tepig might look a bit clumsy, but don't let its appearance fool you – its speed and agility are surprisingly high! Its final evolution, Emboar, is renowned for its sky-high physical attack, learning a wide range of powerful Fighting and Fire-type moves.

Mega Emboar retains its Fire/Fighting typing, transforming into an even more formidable warrior, wielding a blazing spear of flames. Its explosive power is immense; while its defenses are a bit low and speed isn't its strong suit, its high HP and diverse movepool make it a formidable threat on the battlefield. This is the ultimate partner for Trainers who prefer to "solve problems with one punch."

Totodile

Totodile is arguably the earliest bloomer among the three. Its final evolution, Feraligatr, already boasts exceptional physical attack and speed. But in "Z-A," its Mega Evolution takes things to a whole new level, transforming it into a Water/Dragon dual-type!

Mega Feraligatr is described as being able to "form massive jaws with its arms and fins," boosting its attack power tenfold!

This incredible typing is only weak to Dragon and Fairy, allowing it to dominate almost any battle with ease. It's a true predator of the battlefield.

If we had to pick a "best" among the three, Totodile would undoubtedly be the top choice for most players. It evolves quickly, has a broad offensive presence, and its typing balances both offense and defense, making it a champion of power and efficiency. However, the true magic of "Pokémon Legends: Z-A" lies in the fact that every single starter Pokémon has its own unique value and spirit.
