Sources told Page Six that the ambitious project required federal government approval, but Cruise was unwilling to ask then-President Donald J. Trump for assistance, opting to abandon the film rather than seek his help. The sources added that Cruise's reluctance stemmed from political reasons, as he has long maintained a politically neutral stance and did not want to break that neutrality or risk alienating any segment of his fanbase. This isn't the first time Cruise has reportedly avoided association with Donald J. Trump; earlier this year, he also reportedly declined to have Trump present him with a Kennedy Center Honors award, demonstrating his firm commitment to his principles.
