"KochiKame" Gets Brand New Anime! Returns After 10 Years with an All-New Voice Cast

Everyone remembers Osamu Akimoto's legendary manga KochiKame (Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo), which ran for an incredible 40 years in Jump, holding the record for the longest-running series in a shonen magazine.

Today (12/20) at Jump Festa 2026, a brand-new anime project was announced! Titled "New KochiKame" (tentative, Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo), this isn't just a style refresh; it's getting an entirely new voice cast, with animation production handled by Gallop.

This project is kicking off to celebrate the series' 50th anniversary in 2026. On stage, they not only unveiled a special "KochiKame 50th Anniversary" logo but also revealed the official title and logo for the new anime.

As the title suggests, "New KochiKame" will debut with a completely fresh look, with Gallop, the studio behind the original 1996 TV anime, returning to production. This news immediately hyped up the crowd! It's been a minute, though—the last "KochiKame" anime was the 2016 limited special, KochiKame THE FINAL: Ryotsu Kankichi's Last Day.

Of course, for many fans, the original voice cast and animation are absolute classics, so a complete overhaul is bound to invite comparisons. But with the official green light, it'll be interesting to see who steps into those iconic roles!
