New Gunpla Resale Crackdown! Japan's Yahoo Auctions & Flea Market Ban Sales Above MSRP for Three Months Post-Launch

The phenomenon of reselling has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, with limited-edition goods, movie special bonuses, and even food items becoming targets. Almost anything with market potential is now fair game for scalpers.

LINE Yahoo Japan announced on the 23rd that its operated second-hand trading platforms, "Yahoo! Flea Market" and "Yahoo! Auctions," will implement new rules for newly released Gunpla model kits: for a specified period, selling these items above their official retail price will be prohibited.

This regulation primarily aims to combat bulk purchasing for resale purposes, targeting certain popular products that have recently caused market disruptions due to high demand. The official announcement specifically cited models from "Mobile Suit Gundam," commonly known as "Gunpla," as being within the scope of these new restrictions.

For the following model products released from February 6, 2026, any listing priced above the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) or actual selling price will be prohibited for three months from the product's release date, including:

Gunpla (Gundam Plastic Models)

HG (High Grade)

RG (Real Grade)

MG (Master Grade)

PG (Perfect Grade)

※Limited to "unopened, unused" products

※Assembled model kits are not subject to these restrictions

LINE Yahoo stated that this measure aims to prevent malicious high-priced reselling and bulk purchasing. The new regulations will officially take effect on February 6, with a restriction period of three months from the product's release date. If the platforms detect sellers listing items above the official price, they will take actions such as deleting the product pages.

LINE Yahoo had actually implemented similar regulations for newly released game software back in November last year, with a restriction period of one month. This marks the second wave of product control measures to curb high-priced reselling, indicating the company's increasingly firm stance against scalping.

However, many are curious about the actual effectiveness of these measures, how many infringing products will be delisted, and whether other platforms will follow suit with similar approaches.
